Ideal for children approximately 18 months to 5 years who are confident exploring without mouthing materials.
Big Mess Sensory Play offers fun, relaxed and child-led messy play sessions designed to support early development through sensory exploration, creativity and curiosity.
Our sessions are suitable for children aged 6 months to 5 years, with activities adapted to suit different stages and abilities. We currently offer two types of classes:
• Taste-Safe Sensory Play – designed with little mouths in mind and ideal for babies and younger toddlers (typically up to around 18 months or those who explore with their mouths)
• Non Taste-Safe Sensory Play – suitable for children who are confident exploring messy materials without mouthing them
All children are welcome to attend either session, and parents are encouraged to choose the class that best suits their child’s stage of development or individual circumstances. Younger children, including babies from 6 months, are welcome to attend non taste-safe sessions when accompanying an older sibling or friend. Please note that not all activities in these sessions will be taste-safe, and close adult supervision is required at all times to ensure activities remain appropriate for your child.
Each week follows an exciting theme such as beach holidays, outer space, the Olympics and more. While themes change weekly, core activities remain familiar and reassuring, including painting, water play and plenty of messy sensory exploration. This balance helps children feel confident while still enjoying something new.
Expect a sensory-rich environment filled with bubbles, foam, water, paint and hands-on messy materials. Sessions are designed to be fun, engaging and yes… very messy. Old clothes are strongly recommended.
Our classes gently align with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), supporting key areas of development including physical skills, communication, curiosity, creativity and confidence. Learning happens naturally through play, without structure, pressure or expectations.
Big Mess Sensory Play is fully child-led, allowing children to explore at their own pace and in their own way. Parents and carers stay with their child throughout the session and are responsible for supervision at all times. There is no right or wrong way to take part. Some children dive straight in, others prefer to observe first, and some feel happiest exploring from your lap. All of these responses are completely normal and warmly welcomed.
We do not use peanuts or tree nuts in any activities. However, nuts may be present elsewhere on site within shared premises, and we cannot guarantee a completely nut-free environment.
Activities may contain or come into contact with the following common allergens:
celery, gluten-containing cereals, eggs, lupin, milk, mustard, sesame, soybeans and sulphur dioxide/sulphites.
Some food products used may also carry “may contain” warnings or be produced in factories that handle nuts.
Parents and carers are responsible for supervising their child at all times and deciding which activities are suitable. If your child has allergies or sensitivities, please contact us before booking so we can discuss any concerns.
We provide all materials, set everything up and take care of the clean-up afterwards, so you can focus on enjoying the experience with your child.
Come prepared to get messy, make memories and leave the cleaning to us 🌈
