Big Mess Sensory Play offers fun, relaxed and child-led messy play sessions designed to support early development through sensory exploration, creativity and curiosity.
Our sessions are suitable for children aged 6 months to 5 years, with activities adapted to suit different stages and abilities. We currently offer two types of classes:
• Taste-Safe Sensory Play, designed with little mouths in mind and ideal for babies and younger toddlers (typically up to around 18 months)
• Non Taste-Safe Sensory Play, suitable for children who are confident exploring messy materials without mouthing them
All children are welcome to attend either session, and parents are encouraged to choose the class that best suits their child’s stage of development or individual circumstances. Younger children, including babies from 6 months, are welcome to attend the non taste-safe sessions when accompanying an older sibling or friend. Please note that not all activities in these sessions will be taste-safe, and adult supervision is required at all times to ensure suitability for your child.
Each week, sessions follow an exciting theme, such as beach holidays, outer space, the Olympics and more. While the theme changes weekly, the core activities remain familiar and reassuring, including painting, water play and plenty of messy sensory exploration. This balance helps children feel confident while still enjoying something new each week.
Expect a sensory-rich environment filled with bubbles, foam, water, paint and hands-on messy materials. These sessions are designed to be fun, engaging and, yes… very messy. Old clothes are strongly recommended.
Our classes subtly follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, supporting key areas of early development such as physical development, communication, curiosity, creativity and confidence. Learning happens naturally through play, without structure, pressure or expectations.
Big Mess Sensory Play is child-led, giving children the freedom to explore activities in their own way and at their own pace. Parents and carers remain with their child throughout the session and are responsible for supervising them at all times. There is no right or wrong way to take part. Some children jump straight in, others prefer to watch first, and some feel most comfortable exploring from your lap. All of these responses are completely normal and warmly welcomed.
Big Mess Sensory Play does not use peanuts or tree nuts in any of our activities. However, please be aware that nuts are present elsewhere on site within the shared premises, and we cannot guarantee a completely nut-free environment.
Our activities may contain, or come into contact with, the following common allergens:
celery, gluten-containing cereals, eggs, lupin, milk, mustard, sesame, soybeans and sulphur dioxide/sulphites.
Please also note that some food products used in sessions may carry “may contain” warnings or be produced in factories that also handle nuts.
All sessions are child-led, and parents and carers are responsible for supervising their child at all times and deciding which activities are suitable for them. If your child has allergies or sensitivities, please contact us before booking to discuss any concerns.
We provide all materials, set everything up, and handle the clean-up afterwards, so you can focus on enjoying the experience with your child.
Come prepared to get messy, make memories and leave the clean-up to us.
